Shrink the attack surface: one hot cap and fewer funded exchange logins
Security advice often adds more toggles while leaving four funded apps untouched. A sharper approach is arithmetic: decide a maximum hot total, then ask which venues still deserve a slice of that total. Binance, OKX, Bybit and Bitget can all host operating funds, but idle balances are unpaid risk. This guide blends a written hot cap with a quarterly prune of zombie accounts, plus the usual allowlist and API hygiene on the venues you keep.
Write the hot total before allocating per venue
Choose a combined figure that would hurt but not upend your life if it vanished. Only after that number exists should you decide how to split it among active venues. People who allocate first and cap later always discover the sum drifted upward after profitable weeks.
Keep allowlists and second factors on the venues you retain
For each exchange that still holds operating funds, enable withdrawal allowlists where available, keep authenticator or passkey active, and disable withdrawal on API keys used for trackers or dashboards. Controls protect the hot slice; they do not justify growing the slice without a new written decision you can defend later.
Weekly sum check across remaining venues
List balances, add them, compare with the cap, and withdraw the excess to destinations you control with matching networks. Review devices on each remaining login. After travel, do the sum check immediately. Private notes beat memory when you use more than one app.
Quarterly prune of idle funded logins
If you have not placed an intentional trade on a venue for a defined period, withdraw residual balances, revoke API keys, and remove saved devices. Fewer funded logins mean fewer phishing surfaces and fewer forgotten sessions. Emptying an idle account is a custody improvement even when the brand still feels prestigious.
Revisit the cap when life changes, not when timelines yell
Income shocks, larger responsibilities, or a long break from trading are valid reasons to lower the hot total. Viral market excitement is not. Pair the numeric policy with the prune habit so your attack surface trends down over a year instead of silently expanding.
Risk boundary: DeFi Protocol Guide
Digital assets are volatile and derivatives can amplify losses. This website has no login, wallet connection, deposit form or customer-support chat. A referral link only records attribution; it does not guarantee access, pricing, rewards, approval or investment results. Availability can differ by residence, legal entity and product, so no regional access is assumed from language or branding alone.
Scenario checkpoint
- Set a combined hot-balance number before splitting funds across venues.
- Protect retained venues with allowlists, strong factors, and minimal API rights.
- Sum balances weekly and withdraw amounts above the written cap.
- Quarterly empty idle exchange accounts and revoke their API keys.
- Lower the hot cap when life risk changes, not when social feeds demand action.
