Shared futures pre-trade ritual across major CEXs
Before opening perpetuals on Binance, OKX, Bybit, or Bitget, confirm margin mode, read estimated liquidation, check funding for holds, and rehearse a tiny close on that venue’s ticket.
Multiple exchanges | the reader's region | the reader's funding currency | fees, access and account safety
Futures UIs differ by brand, but the risk controls rhyme: margin mode, leverage versus liquidation distance, funding for holds, and a practiced close. This shared ritual works across Binance, OKX, Bybit, and Bitget so you stop reinventing safety steps every time you open a new app. Run it before size, not after a liquidating candle teaches the lesson the expensive way.
Choose isolated or cross on purpose every session
Select Isolated or Cross—or the venue’s equivalent label—before you touch the leverage slider on a new ticket. Isolated contains risk nearer the position margin; cross shares wallet balance and can cascade into other positions when markets run. Newer traders usually reason about outcomes more clearly in isolated mode. Reconfirm after app updates that silently reset toggles you thought were sticky.
Leverage only with liquidation visible on the ticket
Leverage changes how much margin a notional size requires and how near liquidation sits to entry. Higher leverage narrows survival room; it does not improve decision quality just because the slider feels powerful. Enter size you can tolerate if price trends toward the estimated liquidation printed on the ticket. If that estimate hugs ordinary noise, cut leverage or size before you confirm.
Funding checks when you might hold across timestamps
For perpetuals that may cross funding timestamps, read the live rate and countdown and estimate how many intervals remain until your planned exit. Place stops you understand; fast gaps can fill differently from trigger prices. When you review results, separate trading fees, funding, and exit slippage so one wallet line does not hide three different costs.
Tiny open and close, then history audit on each new venue
Open and close minimum size once on a venue whose close controls you have not used this month, so learning happens without adrenaline. Afterwards reconcile PnL, fees, and funding in history with what the ticket showed. Pause copy-trading you do not fully understand while learning. Search that venue’s futures help if labels confuse you before scaling to meaningful size.

Scenario checkpoint
- Confirm margin mode deliberately before each futures entry on any major CEX.
- Read estimated liquidation with chosen leverage and size before confirming the order.
- Check funding countdown when a position may cross a funding timestamp overnight.
- Practice a tiny open and close, then reconcile fees and funding in history afterwards.
